Rust-Shield® VCI* Anti Corrosion Foam
--Available in Sheet and Planks for Protective Packaging
What do you get when you take packaging foam and marry it to VCI*?
You get Rust-Shield® polyethylene foam that (a) prevents corrosion from
forming on metals and (b) protects products from impacts during transit.
VCI* stands for Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors. They are a group of
chemical compounds that protect metal surfaces from
attack by corrosive agents: moistures, salty air, airborne acids
and contaminants.
Examples of metals exposed to accelerated corrosive conditions
Metal coupons were interleafed between foam samples at a temperature of 120 F and 100% humidity. Under this accelerated condition each 24 hours of exposure is equivalent to six months of real world conditions.
* Each day exposure equal ~six months of real world protection.
Why Use Rust-Shield®:
Most products that are stored or shipped have metal components. These components can range from the housing to the electronics. When Rust-Shield® foam is used as either a part of the protective packaging system or simply added to the package as a filler the VCI* vaporizes onto any metal surface, protecting it against corrosion. This process in explained in more detail in the ‘how it works’ section.
